sly. The antibiotics are working. His white cells are coming back up and he is much stronger. He has has phone once again and is talking normally. He has been tied down to the bed with IV's and catheters, so I'm not sure if he can walk yet. But he appears to be strong enough to do so. His mom comes in this afternoon. WE pick her up at about 2:00 and we will go visit him in the hospital. He is supposed to be released on Monday or Tuesday. Since Monday is a holiday we assume it will be Tuesday.

Yesterday was a long day. The oncologist called us first thing yesterday morning to make certain we understood how serious the situation is. They gave him antibiotics all day and his fever did break yesterday afternoon. He was much stronger by the end of the day. He was able to talk a little. In the morning he had not been able to talk at all.
But yesterday afternoon he white blood cells were 30 something. Everyone including Johnny said this is very low. We are now having to wear masks while we are in his room. I think means he has no resistance of infection at all.
Lye just got to the room this morning and she says he is much better and can talk pretty well. I am sure he is still in a very dangerous situation, but he continues to get stronger.
We are taking it day by day, but so far so good.

Yesterday just kept getting worse. Last night around 8:00 he started running a fever. The doctors had told us that if he ran a fever to bring him to emergency immediately. So thats what we did. By the time we got there he was really out of it. Not talking, not answering questions, just had a kind of glazed look He had a fever of 102. They did a cat scan but it came up negative. They wanted to to a spinal tap but his platelets were too low so they gave him 2 units of blood. Of course they kept him over night. We will check on him this morning and let you know what is happening.

May 20th
John his having a bad day today. He is very weak, can't stand by himself and seems in pain or at least very uncomfortable. Keeps moving and changing position. We take him back tomorrow for another appointment. They do blood work and then chemo. John's mother is coming down Thursday May 28th. She seems better, but is still having some pain. I am glad she is coming she needs to see Johnny.
John was using the bathroom yesterday morning and apparently fell back or sat down very hard on the toilet. He broke the tank portion in to several pieces. I still don't know how he did that. The tank looks like it would take a sledge hammer to break it. John was not hurt, but he has to have some bruises. We borrowed a monitor from Susan and put it by his bed last night. It has audio and video so if we hear something we can look and see if he is ok. It worked great, but I'm not certain Lye got a lot of sleep.
I will try and let you know tomorrow night how is doctors appointment went.

Johnny had a check up today. He was supposed to get bloocd work and brain chemo. Last week he had the same schedule but because his platlets were low, they have him blood instead but no chemo.
Today's check up went OK. They had to give him blood again but they did give him chemo after the blood transfusion. Last week he said he got two units of blood. I haven't heard how much he got this week.
The chemo seems to have made him pretty weak this afternoon. He is walking but very slow and very small steps. This is the first chemo in almost two weeks so we weren't sure what to expect.
John stays pretty tired. He gets up and walks outside to the patio and then back inside to watch the Yankees. If he sits for very long in one place he will fall asleep. His speech is sluring and his memory is not too good. Gets confused very easily. Loses track of time. Last week he mentioned that he had not gotten any chemo but his hair seems to be falling out anyway. He was remembering his appointment last Monday when he did got get any chemo, but he has had several doses of chemo in both his blood and brain.
He seems normal when he is watching the Yankees, but he is not nearly as loud or upset and he used to be when someone made a mistake. I believe he is starting to get depressed. The seriousness of his disease is beginning to set in. I think for a long time he didn't really admit to himself how sick he is.
Some days John is stronger than others, but overall we haven't seen any real improvement. Today thankfully he did get a dose of chemo and he will get another on Thursday. Hopefully we will begin to seem some positive changes.
His hair is starting to fall out. Not real noticeable yet, but it probably won't be long before its gone again. Not much else to talk about here.
